How to make a small lawn with your hands on the garden plot

Lawn in the garden area - this is, after all, quite a new phenomenon for us. Until recently, the owners of country gardens tried as hard as possible to plant them with various berry and vegetable crops. But interest in landscape design increasingly stimulates gardeners to organize on their land special recreation areas, where a lawn, a flower garden is necessarily broken, a decorative pond is created and a gazebo is built. Such corners of inspiration are becoming more and more important and necessary for a full rest at the cottage. On a small piece of land, the size of 2-3 hundredths, it is not difficult to break the so-called technical lawn with your own hands, because its main purpose is to protect the free area from weeds and weeds and create an attractive decorative area where it will be pleasant to walk barefoot.

How to make a lawn with your own hands?

1. The first step will be the study of theoretical material. A good help here will be a special literature on the construction of lawns. A lot of necessary information on what herbs are suitable for certain climatic conditions and soils, as well as how to care for the lawn and fight against germinating weeds, can be gleaned from DG Hesayon's book "Everything about the lawn". However, the information obtained must necessarily be corrected with respect to the climate and the specifics of Russian agriculture.

2. To build a quality lawn with your own hands, it is important to choose the right seed. When you come to the specialized departments of stores, carefully study the information on packages of ready-made lawn seed mixtures. Imported packages are usually designed for a warmer and drier climate, so in northern and north-western latitudes of Russia such seeds will give a poor-quality coverage. Most preferred are mixtures with a high content of bluegrass and meadow fescue seeds. These herbaceous plants already in the second year create a dense fluffy emerald lawn. If you do not trust the instructions and the composition on the package, contact the neighbors who have experience in gas-building.

3. Now you need to prepare the ground for the future green area. The land allocated for this purpose should be free of all vegetation, trees and shrubs, as well as excessive moisture and grass bunches. We designate it along the perimeter with pegs with ropes stretched between them. This will be a good guideline for leveling the surface and will not allow you to go beyond the space allocated for the lawn. The pits from the uprooted roots and all the unevenness of the soil are covered with humus mixed with sand, the upper fertile layer of the earth is removed, carefully sorted, freed from small roots and possible debris, and returned back. If the land in the area is depleted, we feed it with various missing mineral and organic additives. Wet clay soil first covered with a layer of sand, and then a layer of fertile soil.

4. Continuing to build a lawn in the dacha with our own hands, we begin to level and compact the soil. This is a very important stage in gas-building, because, to make it beautiful and smooth, the soil should not be loosened, as in beds, but, on the contrary, compact and compact. First, the loosened and dug up soil is equaled by a long board (about two meters). Then they put on self-made seals, made of old boots with half-meter boards planted on their soles, and trample on the site until clear traces disappear on it. After such a procedure, the earth should stand for a while, watching the changes on its surface. The resulting irregularities and hummocks are leveled, and the weeds that appear are carefully uprooted. If the lawn starts to build in early summer, it is better to let the soil stand out for a month, if in the middle or end of summer, then at least a week.

5. Finally, a lawn with its own hands built, seeded with seeds. It is best to do this after a good rain, when the soil dries slightly. Seeds are spread evenly over the surface, approximately two to three large spoons per square meter. Before the emergence of sprouts, watering the area should not be, and then it must be done carefully with a hose with a small nozzle.

6. It must be remembered that the lawn, built with its own hands, requires constant care, especially in the first 2-3 years. Care this simple, but painstaking. The grown grass should be regularly cut, the formed bald spots should be sown with new seeds, and in droughty days the lawn should be watered.
