Stucco decorations in the house - not yesterday! Which styles accept stucco molding on the wall and how to do it yourself

In any home, not only comfort, comfortresidence and the main sanitary facilities, but also the aesthetics of the perception of the home. All people are engaged in "decorating": someone collects elephants, someone hangs up walls with photos, posters, posters and pictures, someone is entertaining with embroidery or burning out - depends on who knows what beauty is in his house. In this case, the option to adapt stucco to the wall comes to mind for many, even if they have very different tastes. For stucco baubles and additions are very different, from the most unexpected materials and can satisfy even very spoiled aesthetes.

Where such elements would be appropriate

Note that if you plan to usestucco (on the wall or ceiling), it is necessary first to estimate whether it will be combined with the overall design of your housing. Most of all, this kind of decoration is suitable for choosing a classic style, Gothic, modern, empire, romanticism or baroque. Actually, it was the admirers of these styles who used the stucco on the wall in large numbers, and without it there was obviously a lack of something. However, in the simplest design, you can use this design move. In principle, the usual ceiling-baguettes (plinths, cornices - they are called differently) is a modern imitation of molded details.

Kinds of such ornaments

The main thing is to soberly assess the general appearance of the room where you planned to place it, and successfully fit the molded parts into the "surrounding world". And for this it would be nice to know what decorations you can supply your home with.

The most common elements arecornices and moldings. They are compatible with almost any design of the apartment. The same can be said about ceiling rosettes designed for framing fixtures. However, when choosing them, you must be able to successfully choose the combination of chandeliers and rosettes: it will be rather silly to look like a modern point built-in lamp inside a magnificent and pretentious molded element. Columns of a variety of forms, including pilasters, are of little use in urban apartments - for this there is not enough space in them. However, for framing niches or doors, small variations of such stucco can be quite appropriate. Decor in the form of garlands, medallions and intertwined ribbons is combined only with a small number of design styles - such stucco on the wall is taken only by "heavy" directions.

Materials for work

Initially, of course, stucco work was performed fromgypsum. In parallel, soft stone and alabaster were used. Now you can also refer to these materials. However, modern industry supplies other sources, which are often much easier to work with and which have undeniable advantages over the classics, but they also have their shortcomings. So, stucco on the wall or ceiling can now be made of foamed polyurethane, foam, fiberglass or polystyrene. For example, the same widely used ceiling skirting boards are mostly foam plastic. Which material to choose depends on you and on the tasks assigned.

Gypsum: disadvantages and advantages

Let's start with the classics. If you choose gypsum as the basis, then you probably will not get stucco on the wall with your own hands - you still need special skills and good artistic talents to work with it. However, bonuses can be written down the uniqueness of the decorations of your apartment (unless, of course, you turned to a specialized workshop, and were not satisfied with factory procurements). At the same time, the same gypsum is a very capricious material. If your house is located near the river, the sea or the lake (that is, the humidity in the room is high), or the ventilation in the apartment is not at the proper level, then the gypsum elements will not last long. Another disadvantage can be considered not a small investment of money - the source material is inexpensive, but here's the work with it is very high-paid.

Polystyrene: disadvantages and advantages

From the modern sources is most popularthis material. Polyfoam, in general, is very democratic, the rest are much more expensive in production. Plus, the fact that polystyrene elements do not need special installation - they just stick to the surface. However, the downside is that joints of such ornaments will have to be pasted periodically. And in the regular cleaning of the elements, too, need. But the advantage is the ability to vary the color - to pick the right shade can even a child, and the surface of polystyrene easily absorbs the paint.

As an option - polyurethane

Apply such stucco to the wall can imagineallow a more limited contingent. This material is much more expensive than polystyrene. However, it is very durable and does not need to be repaired and regularly updated. Moreover, the care for such a decor is extremely simple: it wipes with a damp cloth and is free. Moisture does not cause damage to polyurethane products. Water resistance has become the reason that stucco from this material is installed in pools, and even in saunas. Pressure drops also do not lead to cracking, so a one-time, albeit large, monetary investment justifies itself fairly quickly.

Stages of work

Stucco on the walls (options photospresented in the article) can be ordered in the workshop, but can be performed independently. The easiest way is with ready-made forms made from any material - they are sold in construction shops, and your task remains only to strengthen them in selected locations. The fixing method depends on the material from which the decor is made.

However, if you are interested in an exclusive, you canwork a bit and make a completely unique decoration for your apartment. The simplest way to do this is to use gypsum. Since not everyone knows the skill of sculpture, it is wise to take advantage of the forms. Gypsum composition, which you will have to make, can be additionally strengthened with fiber. Then it is poured into the selected molds and placed to dry out somewhere where the temperature and humidity are constant - the differences in both will lead to uneven drying, so that cracks may appear, and the workpiece itself will be fragile and unreliable. If the gypsum elements are massive enough, they should be reinforced with a grid. When the blanks dry out over the entire volume, they are grinded, removing all the roughness and minor imperfections. If desired, you can gild the stucco molding with a special compound. But be careful: this version of the finishes is very noticeable, and if the combination with the rest of the interior is not enough, you can easily slide into the kitsch or gipsy.
