House of the Actor, Kharkov: the theater center of the big city

On the Manizer Street in Kharkov, in the shade of oil and lime trees,a residential building lurked, remarkable for the fact that the first floor in it is occupied by the House of Actors. It is one of the few urban theater centers that has reached the European level. On his stage there are more than 15 non-state acting studios and collectives. Some are just starting their creative work, others have long been known to the theater public, such as "New Stage", "Amadeus", "Nika", "Theater 19", "New Theater".

It is located in a residential building built in1929 of the last century. In the postwar years it housed a puppet theater. Since 1968 the house was occupied by the Ukrainian Theater Society. After reconstruction and extension of additional premises in 1972, the building was handed over to the House of Actors. Since that time, there have been held evenings dedicated to stage masters and young actors, meetings with spectators, creative meetings with theatrical groups touring in Kharkov, performances.

In 2005, on the basis of the House of Actor,Kharkiv Theater Center (CTC) as a charitable foundation for combining the activities of non-state theaters, public organizations and commercial structures. Its main goal is to raise the culture in Kharkov to a higher level.

In the framework of the program of actions of the founders duringthe House of the Actor in Kharkov was radically reconstructed: the big hall for 200 seats was reconstructed, the make-up and technical rooms were repaired and improved. The lobby also changed. In the future plans - restoration of the main and courtyard facades.

In connection with the expansion of the activities of theSmall stage with a hall-transformer for 70 seats. This moved part of the performances, which the conditions of the small hall are necessary for creating a greater stage expressiveness. During the reconstruction of the premises, original planning solutions were used, which completely transformed the Actor's House.

Kharkov is the only city in Ukraine that owns a free theatrical area. It gives an opportunity to new acting studios to show their talent and improves the tour activity within the framework of the HTC.

Creative activity of the theatrical center

Unconventional and bright productions are collected fullhalls of spectators in the House of Actors. Kharkov Theater has the opportunity to see more than 60 performances per month on its two stages. Concerts, exhibitions, meetings are held here. Paid much attention to the festival: International Small Forms "Teatronik" and called the annual "Kurbalesiya", which involves performances of non-state theaters. Support for young directors, set designers, actors, organization of recitals, master classes, competitions and, of course, staging performances - all these constantly engaged in Actor's House. Kharkov can be proud of its center. It is here, on the stage CHTC, there is always a magical world of art and theater beating heart of the cultural city.
