Quite often many users are puzzledabout the fact that one "perfect" moment in computer systems running Windows, there is an unknown application called Software Update or Software Updater. What is this program, know not all. Some consider it a virus. This is not true. In order to understand the essence of the application of this utility, at first you need at least to know the translation. Software Update is the software update client. But which software updates this program? Further, several versions of this application will be considered, as well as some methods for removing it.
Initially, this client was developed by Apple specialists and usually refers exclusively to the software products of this corporation.
However, if we talk about a broader understandingsuch clients, here you can also include some utilities designed for mobile devices, clients for updating user programs or system components, update clients for antivirus programs (for example, Kaspersky), as well as virus-disguised as official software. But first things first.
So, let's start with Windows-systems, in whichusers notice the appearance of the Software Updater applet. What is this program? As already mentioned, usually it is responsible for the automatic search and installation of updates (updates) for "apple" software products.
However, a legitimate question arises: "Where does the application come from in the system, if there is nothing in common between Windows and Mac OS?" Actually, everything is simple. As soon as the user installs, for example, iTunes, the Safari browser or the Quick Time platform (Apple software development), this program is automatically installed. Sometimes Quick Time Player is required for some programs designed for Mac OS, but adapted for Windows (for example, the music studio Avid Pro Tools 10).
It goes without saying that if you usecomputer for managing the iPhone, iPad tablet or iPod player, such a component in the system clearly does not hurt, since the updater will constantly monitor the updating of computer and mobile components, which will make working with a mobile device connected to a PC or laptop more comfortable.
If this software is indeedthe user does not need it, it can be uninstalled easily. In Windows Software Update, it is removed through the standard section of programs and components in the Control Panel.
However, not all so simple. The fact is that usually in addition to the system is installed several more software products such as support clients (Apple Software Support), as well as unobtrusive utility Bonjour. Thus, in order to perform a complete deletion, you must first sort the list alphabetically, the developer or the installation date, find all Apple applications, including the Bonjour program, and only then delete them all.
But you can do manual removal. It's enough to install the iObit Uninstaller application, which can not only uninstall the main components of all applications, but also completely clean the system of residual files and entries in the system registry.
Note: if the system has programs that use Quick Time, the update should not be deleted, because someday the version of the platform and the player will be irrelevant and will have to be updated manually. In principle, the client does not take up much space, however, it can work independently, since it starts with the system. If you want to get rid of it without removing this component, it's easiest to disable it at startup (the same tab in the system configuration accessed by the msconfig command in the Run menu, and in Windows 10 it is located directly in the Task Manager).
Before us is another version of the update client, but already intended for Nokia smartphones (we are considering it only as an example of working with mobile equipment).
What is the Software Update program in terms ofapplications to such devices? The main purpose of the application is to update the firmware of smartphones, which allows to remove bugs (errors) from previous versions, to supplement smartphones with new applets and features and even restore their original state after critical failures.
Finally, the most unpleasant. If the Software Version Updater is seen in the system instead of the usual applet, you can be sure that this is a virus belonging to the class of browser hijackers that redirect to questionable sites with offers of selling something or installing unnecessary software, add ads to browsers and banners. It is possible that eventually the program will start stealing confidential information from the user terminal.
Delete this threat manually in the sectionprograms and components is problematic because it adds a lot of additional elements like Babylon Toolbar, WebCake, Search Protect by conduit, etc. In this case, it's best to use specialized utilities like Reimage, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, etc.
This is in general terms the Software Updater utility. What is this program, if you do not take into account the viruses, I think it is already clear, as well as how it appears in Windows-systems or how to remove it. As a small total, it remains to add that if the system uses the Quick Time platform, it is not recommended to uninstall the application (although nothing particularly terrible in this).
As for the analog for mobile devices, theirtoo, you can leave, but you need to proceed solely from what exactly the device is available from the owner. Just in case, such applications should be kept at home, since no one is immune from the fact that the smartphone will not fail. And it is not always possible to restore the firmware by means of the device itself.
