Sorbifer: instructions for indications, dosing, contraindications

The drug "Sorbifer Durules" is released in the form of tablets, the active substances of which are iron sulfate (II) and ascorbic acid. The drug belongs to the group of anti-anemic drugs.

Pharmacological action is based on the activity of iron, necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin and the normalization of oxidative processes in cells.

Sorbifer (instruction specifies this especially)affects the release of iron ions. The plastic shell of the tablets is inert in the acidic environment of the gastric juice, it breaks down only in the intestine, where the active ingredient is released. Ascorbic acid is introduced into the preparation in order to improve the absorption of iron.

Absorption of the active substance is provided by a new technology aimed at a uniform supply of the drug in the body. Iron ions bind to plasma proteins more than 90%.

The drug is prescribed:
- with iron deficiency anemia;
- with a deficiency in the body of iron;
- for the prevention of manifestations of iron deficiency in pregnant, lactating, blood donors.

How to take Sorbifer Durules

The tablet is taken without chewing, washed down with water.

Adults and children who have reached the age of twelve take 1 tablet, which is equivalent to Fe2 + in the amount of 100 mg, 1 or 2 times a day. The course of treatment is designed for 3 or 4 months.

To prevent the occurrence of iron deficiency inthe body of pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers are prescribed Sorbifer Durules tablets of 1 piece, which is equivalent to Fe2 + in the amount of 100 mg, twice a day. The treatment is continued until the optimal level of hemoglobin is reached. In some cases, the course of treatment is extended to 2 months.

Digestive system in rare casesreacts to taking the drug with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation. Doctors report allergic reactions in the form of itching or rash. Administration of the drug to patients with gastric ulcers, withpeptic ulcer of the duodenum, inflammatory processes in the intestine (with enteritis, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease) should be done cautiously, the course of treatment should be under the supervision of a doctor.

Actions for overdose

The use of an increased dose of the drug "Sorbifer" can lead to abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea with blood drops, fatigue, general weakness, hyperthermia.

Physicians had to observe in casesoverdose of paresthesia, blushing of the face, increased sweating, acidosis, weak pulse, low blood pressure, palpitations. In severe cases, peripheral circulatory collapse, coagulopathy, hyperthermia, hypoglycemia, liver damage, renal failure, convulsions, coma were noted.
