Vanessa James: The Skater

Vanessa James is a French figure skater,performing in pair skating. Together with Morgan Sipre, they are bronze medalists of the European Figure Skating Championships and five-time champions of France. Also, this couple won medals in a series of international tournaments in figure skating Grand Prix and Challenger.

With his previous partner Yannick Boehnerthe figure skater represented France at the 2010 Winter Olympics. In the overall standings, the pair took the fourteenth place. The girl also is the champion of the Great Britain of 2006 in single skating.

Biography

Vanessa James was born on September 27, 1987 inthe largest city in Canada, Toronto. Up to 10 years, the girl lived in Bermuda until her family moved to the US. Vanessa lived in America until 2007, with a view of permanent residence. Then she flew to France, to Paris. Father James is from Bermuda, which allows her to have British citizenship. French citizenship was received only in December 2009 in order to be able to represent this country at the 2010 Olympics.

Vanessa has a twin sister, Melissa James. She also is engaged in figure skating, but less successfully.

Carier start

Vanessa James began to figureriding with his sister after watching the 1998 Winter Olympics. Initially she performed only at the national competitions of the USA and represented the Washington Club of figure skating.

In 2005 the girl began to represent Great Britain at the international level. Having won gold in 2006 at the British Championship, Vanessa James was the first in this country champion in figure skating of African descent. In the same year, she appeared in the Grand Prix series among juniors, held in the UK, and a year later - at the World Junior Championships. The last competition in single skating for Vanessa was the International Cup of Nice, where the girl won a bronze medal. At the end of 2007, she switched to pair skating, choosing a partner in the British figure skater Hamish Gaman.

Partnership with Yannick Boehner

Not having worked with the previous partner, HamishGaman, Vanessa James teamed up with Yannick Boehner in December 2007. In 2008, they have already started to perform in pairs at the international level. The duet James / Boehner made his debut at the 2008 Grand Prix tournament in the Trophée Eric Bompard competition (Erik Bompar prize). Young figure skaters took the 7th place. At the European Championships in 2009, they took 10th place and 12th - at the World Championships. In the season 2009-2010. their first victory was held: the guys took first place in the Championship of France. As a result, they were sent to the Olympics and then again to the World Cup, where they took the 14th and 12th places respectively. The James / Boehner pair was the first duo of African descent to perform at the Olympics. The cooperation ended in the spring of 2010.

After this, in May 2010, Vanessa triedride with Maximin Koya. Training was very successful, both partners agreed to work in Germany with the well-known coach Ingo Shtoyer. However, a few weeks later, Koya decided to end his career in sports.

Partnership with Morgan Sipre

In September 2010, Vanessa began to skate withMorgan Sipre, who previously performed in solo skating. However, in its first season the pair did not participate, as Sipre had to learn a few new elements. Their joint debut took place in the 2011-2012 season. After the performance at the Memorial of Andrei Nepela and the International Cup of Nice in 2011, the pair appeared on Trophée Eric Bompard, the first stage of the Grand Prix of figure skating. They took 8th place, and then won a silver medal at the French Championship in 2012.

In subsequent seasons, the guys also occupiedworthy and first places in various competitions. Their last achievement is the bronze medal at the European Championships in 2017 in the Czech Republic. They became the first French duet in the last 14 years to win a medal in this competition. Now the guys continue to perform together at the competitions and very successfully, they do not intend to stop there.
